Sm-update
April 5th ed
Hey Smutties!
Just a quick check-in. Everything should be pretty normal this week. I have no exciting news. Personally, I’m hurrying up to retool the ghost book proposal. That’ll be my entire April, and probably into May. As usual, sometimes things don’t work out the first time. I already like it better in this new iteration. That’s how it goes. Keep putting in the work. Stay off your phone. Read books. Have faith in yourself. There’s no other way to do this. Also, birth control is important. If you have a lot of kids, it only gets harder to write a book. Bao, who was with me this weekend, told me she didn’t know how I was surviving under these circumstances. I felt seen.
I’m in the early stages of working on the retreat in Spain (fall 2027). The company I’m working with emailed pictures of the venue and possible date. I want to be there today. I need to work out the details for our annual St. Paul retreat next fall.
Thanks for bearing with me on a few scheduling changes recently! One more possible combo class this week. I’m taking Daphne to Duluth for a college visit on Wednesday. I think I might be able to sneak into the zoom frame by class, but I’m going to do some math and make sure.
Our Book:
Bookstores are starting to order copies. Tropes emailed to let me know they love the cover and ordered some copies! GOOD JOB US!!!! We need to get the word out to other bookstores ASAP.
Bookclub:
Last week we met with SJ Tilly to read a book that inspired a lot of convo behind the scenes and during book club. Thanks for that SJ and Erica! April 19th we’re reading Mischief and Mayhem at the Something or Other Cafe or something by Elizabeth Everett. It’s her new one. Look it up. Start reading now.
Amber talking about anal plugs next to the men’s Bible study at the last book club. I hope she’s reserved her table for April 19th. I rec moving her table closer. They might have thoughts on anal plugs, I’m thinking.
That’s all I’ve got left in me today. I’ll see you all on zoom this week!
xoxo

Throwback to April 5th 2020. Apparently we hadn’t fully quarantined? Or maybe the date on this photo is wrong. I’m guessing it was actually 2019. Look at all that boxed wine and La Tapatia! Remember those $4.99 tostadas? Those were the fucking days people. They used to have my Tuesday night order memorized over there. Last year, when I went to their new location, they still remembered me. There’s a Jamaican place where they used to be.
